This slideshow took over a year to culminate into what it is simply because of my lizard brain resistance to get it done, the fear of not getting it right. My company Betty Belts had been the subject of study with Marketing MBA students at Pepperdine University with their results telling me I needed better branding focus on my website, telling the story via imagery and video, showing the people behind the product, etc. Truly OWNING the authenticity of the brand. And having a world-renowned photographer (my S.O. David Pu'u) joining me on my work trips to Bali, visiting my artisans with me, documenting the beauty of it all, Team Betty surfing the waves, modeling my product and so much more beautiful imagery at my fingertips, it was a horrible shame I wasn't putting it all to better use. My reluctance to get the ball rolling even continued after I had many, many hours of donated time with a talented friend I dubbed my "Marketing Fairy" while she was between jobs. She really nailed it, though, and it became clear what I needed to do. Despite all of that, it STILL took many months to get started on it. When I finally sat down to start, the flip flops photo was the first one I was drawn to, and I was reading Linchpin at the time and "Connectedness" has been an important word to me all along. Then "Everybody Matters" slowly emerged in the fuzziness of my grey matter and the "What Matters Project" was born.

The final creative push I got to make this happen was from hosting the Linchpin Meetup with David on June 14th here in Ventura. The pure stoke of so many linchpins in our small beach town blew me away. Suddenly it started to flow like an inspired river. I knew I had something beautiful that needed to be shared and I suddenly knew how to do it.

Each image has a remarkable backstory and the people in them are all a part of our world family. They are all shot by my sweetheart David Pu'u around the world during various creative projects we both worked on for our respective businesses.

Thank you, Seth! Your work inspires me every day and repeatedly assures me I'm on the right path (for me).

Happy Birthday!

Smiles,

Donna

When exactly were you brainwashed into believing that the best way to earn a living is to have a job?
